Beethoven's Symphony No. 9

The Master Chorale joins the orchestra in this performance of Stravinsky’s solemn and baroque-intoned Symphony of Psalms together with Beethoven’s beloved Symphony No. 9 with its life-affirming "Ode to Joy." Evan Rogister conducts.
Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1

Bestowed with numerous accolades, including “genius,” Stephen Hough returns to play Tchaikovsky’s rhapsodic Piano Concerto No. 1. The evening includes Rossini’s spirited Overture to La Gazza Ladra and Bartók’s tour de force Concerto for Orchestra showcasing the virtuosic talents in each section of the orchestra. Teddy Abrams conducts.

Called a “prodigious and aristocratic violinist” by The Plain Dealer, Concertmaster Jeffrey Multer performs Bartók’s vivacious and gypsy-intoned Violin Concerto No. 2. The evening also features Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 and Steven Stucky’s Radical Light with its wealth of moods and orchestral colors. Joana Carneiro conducts.

In an all-TFO premiere program, it’s a night with Mozart’s Symphony No. 28, Arnold Schoenberg’s orchestral arrangement of Brahms’ Piano Quartet in G minor, and David Diamond’s Symphony No. 4 with its lush flowing string themes, bold brass and sparkling woodwinds. Gerard Schwarz conducts.
