General Manager, National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba
Roberto Chorens completed his initial studies in piano and organ at the Conservatorio Amadeo Roldán in Havana. He continued his studies with degrees in Musicology from the Instituto Superior de Arte de Cuba and in Hispanic Language and Literature from the Universidad de la Habana. He went on to get a Masters in Art from the Instituto Superior de Arte. In addition to specializing in organ repertoire of the 16th and 17th centuries, he has given the world-premiere performances of works by various Cuban composers. His career as a concert artist on the organ includes performances in Cuba as well as in France, Italy, Columbia, Switzerland and Spain. Among his many professional responsibilities, he is the director of the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory and general manager of the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba. Other posts have included the director of Escuela Nacional de Música, director of Centro Nacional de la Música de Concierto and dean of the faculty of music of the Instituto Superior de Arte. He has been involved in wealth of musical activities in Cuba, including overseeing Havana’s International Festival of Contemporary Music as well as being a well respected spokesperson for the musical arts on national radio and televisión. He has also been the recipient of various honors and awards in Cuba, including the Diploma of Merit in Teaching, National Culture Award and the Alejo Carpentier Medal, along with being recognized as a Distinguished Educator in Cuban Education.
