The next concert in the series is an all-Gershwin program showcasing George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue with Canadian pianist Michael Kim, along with a variety of George and Ira Gershwin hits. Conductor Richard Kaufman will be joined by two vocalists (yet to be announced) in a mix of such favorite tunes as Strike Up the Band, Summertime, Oh Kay, Girl Crazy, By Strauss, Fascinatin' Rhythm, Somebody Loves Me, I've Got Rhythm, Love Is Here To Stay, S' Wonderful and Embraceable You.

In addition to solo performances throughout Canada, US, South America and Korea, Canadian pianist Michael Kim has performed with the Boston Pops and Cincinnati Pops as well as with the symphonies of Toronto, Vancouver and Milwaukee. He recently toured Peru with Orchestra Sinfonica de Trujillo and has toured the UK with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the BBC Scottish Symphony, performances that were broadcast on BBC radio and television.

Among his numerous awards and honors, Kim has won prizes at the Scottish International Competition in Glasgow and at the Leeds and Ivo Pogorelich international piano competitions. Aside from being the grand prize winner of the Canadian Music and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation National Radio Competition, he was a recipient of Canada Council's prestigious Career Development award, among various other government grants. Kim received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Juilliard School, where he held the Vladimir Horowitz scholarship studying with Herbert Stessin. Michael Kim last performed with TFO on the 2001/02 Pops Concert series.
