TAMPA, FL -- The Florida Orchestra (TFO) announced the programming today for its 2007/08 Progress Energy Masterworks season under the leadership of Music Director Stefan Sanderling. Of this season, Sanderling said, "Our 40th Anniversary Season offers a wonderful variety of familiar music together with some lesser known but fascinating music. Among the well-known favorites are Grieg's Piano Concerto, Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, Beethoven's Violin Concerto, Brahms' Symphony No. 1 and Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. Among the less familiar works are several Florida Orchestra premieres, including Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 2, Bruckner's Symphony No. 9, Messiaen's L'Ascension and John Harbison's Concerto for Bass Viol. We have some wonderful guest artists too, including Stephen Hough, James Ehnes and Gunther Herbig. It promises to be a magnificent season."

The Masterworks series is available in packages of 14, 10, 7 and 5 concerts with series subscription packages at the early-bird prices (now through April 20, 2007) ranging from $672 for the 14-concert Imperial series down to $125 for the 5-concert Discovery series. Among the various subscriber benefits are free flexible ticket exchanges and a free friend voucher to invite a friend to one of a selection of concerts during the season.

Masterworks subscribers who choose the 14-concert Imperial series also receive a free bonus concert featuring Pinchas Zukerman as violinist and conductor in a program of Elgar, Mozart and Schubert; a 40th-anniversary $40-gift certificate to apply toward purchasing additional tickets this season; and a waiver of the hall facility fees on their series tickets, which can be a savings of up to $28 per series.

The Progress Energy Masterworks programs are performed in the three principal cities of the Tampa Bay area: Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center (Carol Morsani Hall or Ferguson Hall) in Tampa, Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater and the Mahaffey Theater at the Progress Energy Center in St. Petersburg.
