"Listening to a symphony orchestra concert in the morning is a sublime experience."
-- St. Petersburg Times

"The Florida Orchestra...is now positioned to attain the next stage of recognition, on a national and worldwide level."
-- American Record Guide

As part of its upcoming 40th anniversary season, The Florida Orchestra (TFO) announced the programming today for its 2007/08 Holland America Line Coffee Concert series at the Mahaffey Theater at the Progress Energy Center in St. Petersburg. Covering symphonic favorites, concertos, opera overtures, Broadway and ballet, works include Dukas' Sorcerer's Apprentice, Brahms' Hungarian Dances, Mozart's The Magic Flute Overture, music from Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, Tchaikovsky's Romeo & Juliet Overture-Fantasy, Dvorak's Slavonic Dances and Haydn's Symphony No. 103, "Drum Roll," among others.

Soloists will include the 2007 Sphinx Competition Winner, 14-year-old violinist Robert Switala, performing Saint-Saens' Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso; the 2007 TFO Young Artist Competition Winner, 13-year-old pianist Jason Nong, playing Grieg's Piano Concerto (3rd mvt). Conductors for all concerts are yet to be announced.

Running from September, 27, 2007 through May 22, 2008, these concerts provide a somewhat casual format with the conductors talking to the audience about the music and the composers during the performances. Prior to all concerts, complimentary coffee and doughnuts are served in the hall lobby, and pre-concert talks by the conductor and various orchestra musicians are offered in the concert hall one hour before the 11 a.m. curtain time.

Now on sale, the six-concert Coffee series subscriptions range from $120 to $174. Subscribers enjoy a variety of benefits, including Free Flexible Ticket Exchanges and Free Friend Voucher to invite a friend to one of a selection of concerts on the 2007/08 season.
